Helping You Feel Better!

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Radiant Functional Wellness different from a regular massage or spa?

Our sessions are clinical interventions, not relaxation treatments. Karey brings her extensive training in CranioSacral therapy, lymphatic therapy, and therapeutic bodywork to identify and address the underlying systemic causes of your physical tension — not just the symptoms on the surface.

What is CranioSacral Therapy and what can it help with?

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases deep tensions in the body to relieve pain and improve whole-body health. Pioneered by Osteopathic Physician John E. Upledger, it uses a soft touch of no greater than 5 grams — about the weight of a nickel — to release restrictions in the soft tissues surrounding the central nervous system. CST is used as both a preventive health measure and an effective treatment for chronic pain, migraines, TMJ, post-surgical recovery, and nervous system disorders.

Karey brings over a decade of advanced Upledger Institute training to every session, listening to your body's own rhythms rather than applying a generic protocol. Most clients describe the experience as profoundly restorative, with effects that continue unfolding for days afterward.

Do I need to be on a functional medicine protocol to book a bodywork session?

No. While our sessions complement the M.A.P. System beautifully — especially for clients on detox or drainage protocols — bodywork is available as a standalone service for anyone dealing with chronic tension, nervous system dysregulation, post-surgical recovery, or trauma.

Why is lymphatic therapy important during a detox protocol

Detox protocols mobilize stored toxins and metabolic waste, but if your lymphatic drainage pathways aren't open and moving, that waste has nowhere to go. Manual lymphatic therapy activates those pathways so inflammation can actually clear the body rather than recirculate.

What does "nervous system recalibration" mean and why does it matter?

When your body is stuck in chronic fight-or-flight (sympathetic dominance), it cannot heal, repair, or rest properly — no matter how many supplements you take. Our manual therapy techniques signal your nervous system to downshift into “rest and digest” or parasympathetic mode, which is where true cellular repair happens.

Is bodywork appropriate if I'm recovering from surgery?

Yes, and it's often highly recommended. Clinical lymphatic and structural therapies can reduce post-surgical swelling, improve circulation, minimize scar tissue formation, and support faster recovery. We work gently and in coordination with your medical care..

How is therapeutic massage at Radiant Functional Wellness different from a standard massage?

Our therapeutic sessions target deep fascial restrictions and structural imbalances that contribute to chronic dysfunction. The goal isn't temporary relaxation — it's restoring mobility, releasing the physical "armor" that accumulates from chronic stress, and supporting your overall functional health long-term.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends on how long your body has been holding the patterns we're working to release. Acute issues may resolve in a few sessions, while long-standing structural or nervous system patterns typically benefit from a series. Karey will discuss a realistic plan with you at your first appointment.

What should I expect during and after my first session?

What you wear depends on the type of session you've booked. For CranioSacral Therapy, you remain fully clothed throughout. For lymphatic therapy and therapeutic massage, you'll be asked to undress to your comfort level with full draping provided. If you prefer to stay clothed for a structural massage session, comfortable athletic wear such as shorts and a t-shirt or sports bra works perfectly.

Regardless of modality, most clients notice a deep sense of relaxation during the session. In the days following, it's common to experience improved sleep, reduced pain, or emotional release as your body integrates the work. Some clients temporarily feel more tired than usual — this is a normal part of the healing response and a sign your system is doing exactly what it should.

Bodywork Is Powerful. But It's Only Part of the Solution.

Great bodywork does more than relieve tension — it opens the door to understanding why that tension keeps coming back. At Radiant Functional Wellness, our clinical bodywork is one half of a deeper approach to root-cause healing. If you find yourself wondering why chronic pain, inflammation, or fatigue keep returning despite treatment, the answer may lie in your gut, your hormones, or your nervous system. We'd love to introduce you to the other half of what we do.
